Time warner cable outage
Forgive the lack of formatting, and the normal presentation- as this message is being sent via my phone. The snowpocalypse, as manifested in the silken lanes of Astoria, has led to a major Time Warner cable outage. Since Sunday night at approximately 11pm, both cable and Internet connectivity went blank. The natives are restless and deprived of emptytainment, whereas I am frustrated by inability to “do my thing”.
I’ll be back as soon as the very worst of New York’s utility monopolies lets me get online again. Feels a bit like the Great Astoria Blackout of 2006, actually.
Why in the world isn’t there any fios service in Astoria? I would leave Time Warner in a second!!!
It;s the second day without internet (down on 41st street&31ave), and therefore the second day I can’t work, so I called TW. Without a surprise they put me through with a representative from India who couldn’t tell me when the internet will be back up. Thanks for the holiday gift TW…

what’s happening? are you still w/o TW service? we live in woodside and it’s a similar situation here: no phone, internet or cable.
#1. call your city council person to ask them to look into it.
#2. it would also be good to contact one of the local news centers. i just called NY1 and it was news to them, so do your duty and follow up, please.
and as TW seems to have a history of not compensating for loss of service, let’s also make an issue of that!

We just came back on sometime earlier this afternoon. Don’t know about the neighbors yet, but I can tell you that Direct TV didn’t blink at all- even at the height of the blizzard.
Still stuck with TWC for data, however…

[…] The recent and much commented on Blizzard of December 28, 2010- which we in the frozen zone of Astoria refer to as “The Snowpocalypse”- produced many memorable moments around the ancient village. Made especially clear was that the internet, designed to withstand a nuclear attack, has become vulnerable to seasonal weather in the hands of corporate stewards such as Time Warner Cable. […]
